The Young Africa Skills Centre (YASC) is used by almost 400 young people on a daily basis and approximately 1,000 young people complete technical and education based courses each year.

Since 2009, the YASC has been affected by water supply shortages from the Municipality. This affected the delivery of training courses for young people, as well as production for the local franchise holders who run their businesses at the YASC, whilst training local young people through the innovative Franchise Concept. It also resulted in declining health and sanitation standards on the busy campus and left the YASC vulnerable to a cholera outbreak which affected Chitungwiza in 2008.

The borehole was dug to a depth of 55m and has been running smoothly for a number of months. Water storage tanks, a pressure pump, a water conservation system, switch box, stoppers to reduce leakage, water access points and level checkers were also installed by a local company.

SERVE is happy to report that a reliable and clean water supply has now been secured for YASC and we are confident that this project will continue to make a big contribution towards a bright future for young people in Chitungwiza.

Sweat 4 SERVE
