Volunteering Options
SERVE’s Volunteering Programmes are open to individual applicants and will run between June – August each year.
Option 1: 4 – 7 Week Programme (June – August)

Option 2: 2 Week Programme (Ireland only)

The nature of the volunteer work that you will engage in will depend on the country destination. Volunteers assigned to programme countries are based on matching the needs of partners with the skills’ base of volunteers

SERVE’s Immersion Projects emerge from a 3 way conversation between our international partner, schools and SERVE. These projects are suitable for:
(a) 15-18 year olds.
(b) School Clusters
(c) Connecting in a practical way with the school curriculum
(d) Special Consideration will be given to DEIS school applicants
(e) 10 Days Duration (aligned with school term)
Project Elements:
- Practical work
- Immersed into local communities
- Visiting the development projects of SERVE’s partners
- Making connections between schools and young people
- Learning and sharing together
- Strong emphasis on Development Education
- Helping to fund partner’s projects
- Project capacity- 20 students
- Teacher Involvement
This programme will involve a 10-day overseas volunteering project and is available on request, at different times of the year, suitable to the needs of the school and the overseas project partners involved, in line with the school term. This project is available to all Second level school classes (students aged 15-18). Special consideration will be given to DEIS school applicants.

SERVE’s Immersion Project will be designed in consultation with the school to devise the Project Elements suitable to meet the anticipated outcomes of the project for the school,students and overseas project partners involved.

SERVE’s Solidarity Programmes emerge from a 3 way conversation between our international partners, Irish based communities & SERVE.
These projects are suitable for :
(a) Established Community Groups
(b) A new / emerging community group
Project Elements:
- 2 Week Duration
- Any time of the year
- Programme capacity: 20 people
This programme will involve a 2-week overseas volunteering project and is available on request, at different times of the year, suitable to the needs of the group and to SERVE’s overseas partners.
This programme is suitable to an established community group that may be looking to expand its focus and to create a new programme for their members. This programme may also appeal to a new / emerging parish or community group which may be interested in offering an overseas volunteering project as a starting point in the formation of their group.
The programme elements which SERVE will offer to your group are:
- Pre-departure training
- Community house building
- Living with host families
- Summer Camps
- Sharing Skills
- Development Education

SERVE supports our international partners when the need arises in identifying,training and assigning long term volunteers. The goal of this option is to enhance the capacity development of our partners. The availability of placements for Long Term volunteers is driven by the needs and requirements of our Overseas Partners.
Special features include:
(a) Suitable for individual volunteers over the age of 21.
(b) Duration: 1– 2 years
(c) Project outline will be agreed between SERVE and the individual depending on the
needs of SERVE, the individual and that of SERVE’s overseas partners.
(d) Volunteers must meet the criteria set out in the job description and job specification.
(e) Pre-departure training
(f) Includes travel costs, insurance (medical and social), and a subsistence allowance.
